Sunrise at the Jersey Shore

Sunset 4 Monotype with Collage Another year of no travel. I did many works on paper of landscapes from memory and what was in my mind’s eye. One evening I looked out my living room window and saw an amazing sunset. Mother nature is the best artist! I finally got back to the printing press after 2 years and was able to print monotypes again which I then collaged on. I have seen many sunsets and only a few sunrises since I am not really a morning person. Nature nurtures us and I create art that is a mixture of what I have seen with my eyes and the truth of what I see in my heart.

Sunrise/Sunset

Sunrise at the Jersey Shore 4 Appreciating the natural world around me since travel has been off the table for two long years. I especially love watching the sunrise (not so often) and sunset which I can now do every night from my living room window since we moved. I can also see the sunrise from our bedroom window but usually get up too late to see much. I have more images to add and will soon...

Another Favorite- Asia!!

I've been fortunate enough to have visit several countries in Asia on several trips. We've been to Thailand, India, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Viet Nam, China and Japan. I love the Asian sensibility. Now I depend on my memories and the images in my mind's eye since travel is no longer safe.

I made these 12 x 12" mixed media works on paper recently and will include some, if not all, of them in my upcoming exhibit Footprints: Travel Landscapes at Da Vinci Art Alliance in May 2021. The exhibition will include art inspired by my travel to the seven continents.  Details will follow.

South America- A Favorite Destination

We have visited South America 5 times and loved it each time. Some places like Chile and Argentina we visited many times and some, like Peru and Columbia, we visited only once. I love the scenery, the Andes, the people, the life style.  I look forward to going again.

I made these 12 x 12" mixed media works on paper recently and will include some, if not all, of them in my upcoming exhibit Footprints: Travel Landscapes at Da Vinci Art Alliance in May 2021. The exhibition will include art inspired by my travel to the seven continents.  Since we cannot travel now, I remember and create art from my mind's eye. Details will follow.

Travel In My Mind's Eye

Since travel is limited this days, I am searching back in my photos and my mind's eye to previous travel to my favorite places. Antarctica is up there as my number 1 spot. I am so fortunate to have been there, traveled through some parts of it and walked on the White Continent.

I do not have to travel to exotic places to get inspiration. On a drive to Reading to say good bye to a friend moving to Chicago, I saw beauty in the lush greens- so many of them- of the rolling hills of Pennsylvania along the turnpike. As I was enjoying the views of the hills, I saw a sign to Green Hills* which is a small town along the way. I came home and created this series.

Green Hills is a borough in Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States. The borough was formed in 1978 when a local businessman worked to secede from the dry township of South Franklin after voters there defeated a referendum that would allow alcohol sales at his county club.

This series of mixed media works on paper include silkscreen, monotype, and collage.

Works on Paper Inspired by Marrakech

Marrakech Market 1- Mixed media

Marrakech Market 2- Mixed media

Marrakech Market 3- Mixed media

Surrounded by a vast palm grove, the medina in Marrakech is called the “red city” because of its buildings and ramparts of beaten clay, which were built during the residence of the Almohads. The heart of the medina is Jamaa el-Fna square, a vibrant marketplace.

Marrakech is known as the red city because its pink-tinted buildings reflect the light like a rose quarts gem. Marrakech is also known as the “Red City” due to its famous and inviting red walls, alleys and plazas. These red walls surround the Medina, the old city, and have numerous huge gates that used to be shut at night in the old days. The walls are now iconic and peculiar to this city by all means.

A visit to Marrakech is a magical experience. The city offers plenty of exoticism and romance. It’s a tourist destination that manages to combine the best of Moroccan culture and tradition but with a chilled out vibe and modern amenities too.

These mixed media works on paper are a combination of digital imaging, traditional monotype printing and collage. The paper was made for me using patterns of tiles I saw during my travels to Morocco.

How can an artist capture the grandeur and greatness of nature?? The sky so big, the vastness of the mountains, the vivid colors- I try to create what is in my mind's eye- how I remember the scene, what struck me the most, what I take home with me.
